Fortress Hoek van Holland
Hoek van Holland was due tot his geocraphical location one of the most strategic points of the Netherlands.
The entrance of the nieuwe waterweg which lead tot the harbour of Rotterdam is at Hoek van Holland.
At the northernside of de nieuwe waterweg you can find the place Hoek van Holland and at the southern part of the Nieuwe waterweg lays "Isle de beer".
Both sides of the entrance of the Nieuwe Waterweg were heavy protected by heavy Coastal batteries. The batterie at "Isle de Beer" was named "Kernwerk".
On the Kernwerk 52 ST bunker are build, unfortunately al bunkers are demolished for realising "de Maasvlakte".
The northern part of the Fortress Hoek van Holland was protected by two tankditches.Betweem the tankditches several bunkers
were build for protecting the Fortress against the allied forces. Today lots of bunkers remain under which a few (almost) complete
strongpoints.
