Fuhrer Hauptquartier Wolfsschlucht 2


















During the capture of the different countries Hilter wants to have on a short but safe distance from the frontline a Fuhrerhauptquartier (FHQ). From this FHQ he can lead the war. Wolfsschlucht 2 in the forest of the small French village Margival (Picardie) is one of the FHQ's. The 2 behind Wolfsschlucht is simply to clarify because there was already a Wolfsschlucht 1. Wolfsschlucht 1 was located in Belgium, not far from the French border. From Wolfschlucht 1 the command was given over the capturing of French (Wolfschlucht 1 was lots smaller than Wolfschlucht 2, it only consist a few buildings). In the area of Tours (france) the Germans also started to build a Wolfsschlucht 3.

Wolfsschlucht 2 was build to lead the invasion of Great Brittain (Operation Seelowe). The complex Wolfsschlucht 2 is around 5 km long and 2 km wide (see also the chart below). Lots of very big bunkers are build on this location. Under which a few Grossbunkers with measurements from sometimes more than hundred meter. Also a special Fuhrerbunker was build, this bunker was specialy designed for Hitler. The area of the FHQ is very heavy defended by 18 light and heavy Flakbatteries, 10 bunkers for heavy mahchineguns with armoured plates, 5 bunkers for heavy machineguns with drei schartenturm (armoured coupola with three openings for a heavy MG), 1 bunker for a heavy machinegun with sechsschartenturm (type 114) and some other bunkers for heavy guns. Despite the very heavy protection of the complex, HItler visits the location only one time, the visit was only a few hours. On 17th of June 1944 Hitler had a meeting with different Generals ablut the allied invasion in Normandie.
All bunkers are today still there and are in a very good condtion, and are almost all free to enter. The presence of lots of very rare bunkertypes, the condition of all the bunkers and the beautifull surrounding makes it a very attractive place to visit. This is really 'the heaven' for every bunkerfreak.
Spring 2007 I visited this location the first time, spring 2010 a returned to visit the locations I missed during my first visit. During my second visit lots of thing has changed, the headquarter itselfs (Innere bereich) can not be visited anymore. Also some bunkers for the area defence are closed Maybe I will visit this location for the third time, to look for the last bunkers I did not found yet.
